Ryan Lee pitching during his no-hitter on Friday against Pender High School in game one of the double-header with the Pats.

First it was Ryan Lee. The Midway Raiders got a huge night from their pitching staff in the double-header with Pender on Friday, and game one belonged to Lee. Lee pitched the complete 5 innings, shortened for the double-header from seven innings, and allowed no hits, walks or runs in the shutout win. He struck out 6 batters in a dominant performance. The final of game one of the day was 7-0, Midway. In game one, Matt Barefoot had a pair of triples and Kyle Hawley had a triple. Trey Wood had a 2 RBI double in the first game as well.

In game two, Barefoot was on the bump. He pitched the complete 5 innings, hanging all zeroes in the Pender offensive column. Barefoot K’d 8 batters, walked none, nor allowed any runs while giving up a whopping 2 hits. He helped his own cause with a single at the dish in game two. Kyle Hawley, Tyler Pope and Jake Clark each had hits in game two as well.

“Our pitchers were once again great tonight and they have really just done a great job for us all season,” said Midway’s head coach Jason Fussell. “Our defense has to be a little better behind Ryan because if we take away those few errors, he allows no baserunners all night.”

Midway is now 14-2 (9-1). That lone conference blemish came a month ago at Clinton. The teams are now tied for the lead in the conference, and Clinton travels to Spivey’s Corner on Tuesday for the 7 p.m. showdown of these newly acquainted cross-county rivals.

“We have had a lot of guys on this team play in big games like the one we’ll play here next week,” Fussell continued. “Clinton has a great team, excellent pitching staff and are having a great season. We will have to play well come Tuesday.”
