Sampson Middle School’s baseball team was kind enough to give up a home game of their own and head to Midway to be able to get the game in on Monday. Sampson’s field was wet due to the heavy rain on Sunday evening, but the Raiders’ field was fine.

In the end, Midway was too much for the Dark Horses as they downed them 14-2.

It was a big day on the hill for starting pitcher Carson Calcutt for the Raiders. He pitched a complete game, in this case five innings due to the ten-run rule. Calcutt had 8 strikeouts and gave up the two runs, just one of them earned. He walked just two batters and gave up only three hits.

Calcutt helped his own cause at the dish. He went 1-3 with a run scored and walked once. Other offensive leaders for the Raiders included Cameron Barefoot, who went 1-1 with a triple to lead-off the game and had 2 walks to score 3 runs. Jaron Register went 2-3 with 2 runs scored, including an inside-the-park home-run. Chandler Williford went 1-3 with a double and a run scored. Brayden Coats went 1-2 with 2 runs scored, Eli Culbreth stepped up big in the catcher’s position, going 2-3 with a run scored, Reid Tyler went 2-3 with a run scored, and Cole Register went 1-1 with 2 runs scored and was walked twice.

Sampson’s stats were unavailable at press time.

“It was a good game all the way around for our guys,” said Midway’s head coach, Steven Tyler. “We are very appreciative to Sampson’s coach and baseball team for sacrificing one of their home games to allow us to get this game in. I thought that Carson really pitched a good game for us. He is in a little groove now and is really throwing the ball well. We hit the ball really well and we are looking forward to the homestretch of the season.”
