Hobbton’s volleyball teams traveled to Goldsboro to meet the Cougars for the second time this week and came away with mirror image wins to those played in Wildcat Country Tuesday.
The junior varsity ‘Cats secured another 2-0 win, but the varsity came up short, losing in 4 sets.
In JV action, Hobbton swept the Lady Cougars, with a massive attack in the first set that gained them a 25-5 victory, followed by a closer second set of 25-13.
“We played a good game,” said coach Russell Jones. “It was a really good night for the JV.”
In the first set , Hobbton was up 12-5 when Megan Parker came in for her serve rotation. She served 13 to 25 for 12 consecutive points. “She did a great job. She gave us good serves,” Jones said, adding that the team also was able to attack on the free balls.”
The JV’s record moves to 2-1
While the varsity couldn’t pull out the win, Jones said he saw improvements in his team, particularly in the second set, where the team held their own with the Cougars.
The Lady Wildcats lost 3-1 — 25-16; 22-25; 25-11; 25-8. “We didn’t play well in that first game at all, but we came back in the second and did a good job. Then in the third I think we were celebrating a little too much. We were doing a lot of things right in that second game but we just couldn’t keep things going.”
The varsity moves to 0-3 on the young season.
Conference play begins Tuesday when Hobbton plays host to rival Rosewood. The JV game begins at 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity.
