Sampson youth participate in Prestage Farms Youth Livestock Round-Up

August 26, 2013

This past Saturday, Aug. 24, youth from Sampson and other eastern North Carolina counties gathered at the Sampson County Livestock Arena for the 17th annual Prestage Farms Youth Livestock Round-Up. Seventy-five young exhibitors showed lambs and heifers throughout the day. Around 120 lambs and their handlers were judged by John Tart III while Adam Ross judged 20 heifers and handlers. During the round-up, competitors took two turns in the show ring; the first so the judge could evaluate their animals for quality and the second so the judge could look at how well participants presented their animals. The livestock round-up is one of the shows on the Eastern Showmanship Circuit, and in addition to participating in it, young livestock exhibitors will continue competing most every weekend from now through the N.C. State Fair in October, racking up circuit showmanship points in hopes of earning a coveted buckle.
