An ongoing investigation into several county vehicle break-ins has led to the arrest of a Clinton man on myriad felony charges.
Brandon Alan DeWitt, 26, of 224 RB Tyndall Road, Clinton, was charged Friday afternoon with three counts of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, one count of motor vehicle theft; one count of possession of a stolen vehicle; three counts larceny from a motor vehicle; and three counts possession stolen property.
He remained in jail Monday afternoon under an $11,250 bond.
According to Sheriff’s Cpl. Marcus Smith, DeWitt’s charges stem from four separate incidents, all that took place on Aug. 20. In three of those incidents, the 26-year-old is suspected of breaking into vehicles on Bradshaw Road and Sharecake Road, stealing an assortment of items, including cash, CDs, speakers and sunglasses. In a fourth incident, the suspect is charged with stealing a golf cart from a Sharecake Road residence.
In all, over $3,000 in property was stolen, some of which has now been recovered.
Few details were available about the case, but Smith did say it was through continued investigation that officers were led to DeWitt as a possible suspect.
He was jailed Friday afternoon and has remained behind bars since. He is expected to make his first appearance in Sampson County District Court Friday, Aug. 30 on those charges.
