Harrells Christian JV fans had a lot to shout about in their season-opener against Village Christian Academy in Fayetteville. HCA took the win home, 47-20, but not before scoring at least one touchdown in each quarter.
The Crusaders jumped on the scoreboard first with a touchdown run by Rance Creech and a 2-point conversation run by Gary Fussell. VC came right back with a rush into the endzone and then a pass for a 2-point conversion.
Creech was back in the endzone in the second quarter, but HCA was unable to convert with a 2 point conversaion. Harrells defense stepped up and Corey Pruitt intercepted a Village pass and returned it for a 70 yard touch down run, but once again, the 2-point conversion was no good.
At halftime, the score was 8-20 with the Crusaders in the lead.
Harrells started the third quarter fired up and scored twice. Will Huff powered his way into the endzone and the Pruitt ran in for the 2-point conversion. Creech scored the second TD on a run, but the the 2-point try failed.
In the fourth quarter, VC didn’t give up and managed to get into the endzone twice, but it wasn’t enough.
Crusader Tyshon Newkirk scored, but the kick missed the mark. Then Luke Davis took a turn racing into the endzone and this time the PA kick by Robert Malpass was good, making the final score 20-47.
The Crusader JV will play at home this Thursday against Wake Christian Academy.
