The North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts sponsor students to attend Resources Conservation Workshop (RCW) each year on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh.
Johnathan Coble, a senior at Lakewood High School who is involved in FFA and is the son of Joan Meeker and Darrell Coble, was selected to attend the workshop for Sampson County. He received the Anna S. Sumner Award which makes it possible for local students to attend this week-long session. Johnathan attended the workshop June 23-28.
The RCW is a natural resources training event for high school students from across North Carolina. The students are brought to North Carolina State University and spend a week studying our natural resources — forest resources, aquatics, wildlife, soil/land uses, alternative energy, solid waste management, waste and current environmental issues.
During the session, students learn about our natural resources and resource problems. It also gives them an opportunity to see what college dorms are like and to see professional resource personnel for job opportunities.
Johnathan was sponsored by the Sampson County Soil and Water District. For more information on this workshop, call 910-592-7963, ext. 3.
