Midway’s varsity Raiders set the tempo in Wednesday night’s soccer match against Pender, and they held the home team scoreless as they notched another W in their young season. Final score 5-0.
“I was very pleased with the way they played,” coach Alan McLamb stressed. “They came out slow, held the field well, watched what was going on and got a good feel for things. They were playing smart soccer.”
Then, they poured it on, starting with Jonathan Garcia who picked the pocket of a Pender playing and took the ball to the goal for the Raider’s first goal of then night.
That score was followed by a second from Alex Boggs off an assist from Gracia.
Midway was up 2-0 and held that lead throughout the first half.
In the second period, the Raiders came out ready to play, with Garcia hitting pay dirt first off an assist from Jonathan Espino.
Matt McLamb scored Midway’s fourth goal, with another assist from Garcia.
The final goal came off the foot of Jackson Royal, again with a Garcia assist.
“They played good, solid soccer,” McLamb said.
Midway’s record moves to 4-1-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
They take on a powerful Clinton Dark Horse team Monday night at 6 p.m.
