Helping a child

September 17, 2013

Well it’s September and it is once again time for the annual Shriners Fish Fry being held this year on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., and from 4 until 7 p.m.. The local Sampson County Shriners are cooking fish at two different locations , in Clinton at the Sampson County Agri-Exposition Center, and in Roseboro at Dorman Chevrolet on Hwy 24 . You can eat in or take out . Please come by and eat with us; the proceeds go to a great cause — the Shriners hospitals .

We have had this fish fry for as long as anyone around here can remember and the people of Sampson County have always supported it very well . Last year, with your help, we were able to send a check for $1,200 to our charity . It should give you great pleasure knowing that besides getting a great meal you are helping to make a better life for a child .

The first Shriners hospital opened in 1922 in Shreveport, La.; since then that total has risen to 22. Shriners Hospitals for Children are dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research, and outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals. Shriners hospitals for Children provides treatment for orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate .

Any child up to 18 years of age is eligible to receive care at a Shriners Hospital as long as there is a reasonable possibility that they can benefit from the specialized services . Acceptance is based solely on a child’s medical needs . If you know of a child that may need help contact a Shriner or call toll free at 800-237-5055 .

Again thanks for the many times you have supported our fish fry and I hope you come out and support us Wednesday, Sept. 25.
