Mintz Christian Academy’s middle school held its inaugural volleyball match on Monday and hosted Community Baptist Academy of Bladenboro. The Mintz Lions won both matches, winning all five games.

In the first match MCA won 25-4 and 25-11.

Courtney Barber and Caroline Chestnut led all scorers with 13 service points each.

In the second match MCA defeated CBA 25-4, 25-5 and 25-12.

Brianna Wheeler led the way with 14 straight service points and 11 aces to start the match. Hanna Horne followed with another 8 straight service points.

In the second set Madison Hawkins scored 7, Hanna Horne 7 and Sydney Norris 5.

The third set had a balanced scoring, with CBA improving their defense. Savannah Fann had 5 assists and 3 kills, Erynn Sessoms 4 kills; and Sydney Norris, 4 kills.

As the Mintz athletic director, Dan Heinz was happy to see volleyball competition come to the new Mintz gymnasium, and as the head volleyball coach, Heinz was just as pleased to see the Lady Lions get their first win.

“I am very proud of our girls, they have worked hard for several weeks preparing for today and it showed. Our serving was excellent, and that has been the major focus for us,” Heinz stated.

On Thursday, MCA will host Roseboro Salemburg Middle School at 4 p.m.
