Wildcat soccer on a winning roll

Hobbton’s soccer team has played 3 games in the last week, shutting out 2 teams and holding the third to a tie to continue their winning record of 6-3-1 overall and 4-0-1 in conference.

The first win came against new conference rival Princeton, 9-0. Eber Gomez scored 4 goals, Christian Vega, a freshman, 3 goals, Jose Delgado, 1, and D. Villagomez, 1 goal. Eber Gomez was also credited with 1 save.

Later in the week, the Wildcats went up against South Johnston and ended with a tie score, 2-2. S.J. scored a goal in each half, but Hobbton scored their two points all in the first half. Both goals came from kicks by Gomez.

A. Feliciano was credited with 7 saves.

In speaking about the South Johnston game, Wildcat head coach Bryan Martinez said, “It was a really close game which ended in a draw. I am proud of my guys for ending up in a draw against a 3-A school. It was a tough week, but the guys have shown me what they are capable of and we’re ready to take on the rest of the season.”

On Monday, the Wildcats shut out Neuse Charter 9-0, scoring 6 goals in the first half and 3 goals in the last half.

Gomez scored 6 goals, Cesar Castillo, 1, Christian Sega, 1, and Isaac Chavira, 1 goal.

F. Alvarez and Alex Lezama were each credited with 2 saves.

The Wildcats faced James Kenan on Wednesday and will host Lakewood next Wednesday.
