Hobbton’s Eber Gomez is a quiet, unassuming soccer celebrity. His 102, and counting, career goals, as well as his 29 goals this season, have put him in some rarefied air, placing him number 1 in North Carolina high schools and number three in the nation in scoring, according to MaxPreps.
He has been playing organized soccer since 7th grade at Hobbton Middle. The Wildcat senior is still excited about playing and his team has a winning season.
Gomez said, “I am happy to have been here 4 years and every year I give it my best. My goal is to be a soccer player. I don’t know if I can make it. I am really happy with the 100 goals I have scored.”
He also plays soccer on the weekends in a local adult soccer league.
Bryan Martinez, his coach, said, “I have had him for two seasons. He is a spectacular player. If I had 11 Ebers, I would have an awesome team. He is a really good player and I wish the best for him. I hope he has a chance to play college ball. We are doing everything we can to get him on track. I will miss him after he leaves. He is our top scorer. To have one of the top scorers in the nation is awesome. It is unreal. It’s like I’ve got him. Although he scores a lot, we still play as a team.”
His parents are Mirna Funuz and Victor Gomez.
