Mustangs offense too much for Crusaders

Harrells Christian Academy varsity football fell to South Robeson High School, 12-44, on Friday.

The Crusaders couldn’t overcome the Mustang’s offense, but with the help of Zach Carlton and Sammy Dixon, HCA was able to put points on the board.

The first quarter was even with SRHS and HCA each scoring a touchdown, but no extra point. The Crusaders were able to cross the end zone again before the end of the first half, but so did the Mustangs. And S. Robeson was able to sweep in for the extra two points.

At halftime, the score was 12-14.

The second half was all Mustang, with SRHS scoring 14 points in the third quarter and 16 points in the fourth quarter to end the game 12-44.

Scoring for the Crusaders was Zach Carlton on a 51 yard pass and Sammy Dixon on a run.

Carlton’s rushing yardage was 3 for 14 and Dixon went 22 for 145. Channing Kelly rushed 7 for 18 and Kelly Nelms carried the ball 15 times of 106 yards. Nelms also caught a 6 yard pass.

On defense for the Crusaders, Dixon was credited with 8 tackles; Carlton, 6; O.H. Rouse and Ben Parker, 7 each; Frederick Strickland, 10; Justin Smith, 6; Rooks Wells, 1; and Channing Kelly, 2 tackles.

The Crusaders will travel to Cannon School next Friday.
