The Leopard soccer team went up against Princeton on Monday night, and Lakewood defended their home field victoriously with a score of 5-2.

Princeton managed to score first, but with nine minutes left in the first half the Leopards found the back of the net. Then just before halftime, the Lakewood managed to put one more on the board for a 2-1 score at halftime.

Early in the second half, Princeton made a come-back of sorts by scoring a penalty kick to make a 2-all tie.

But the Leopards came back with a vengence and scored 3 more unanswered goals for a 5-2 finish.

Leopard head coach Jay Faircloth said his team doesn’t quit and he’s proud of the way they played despite some errors in the first period.

“We played very sloppy for the first half, but we finally looked like we were playing soccer in the second half. In the second half we just really started playing like we know how to play. Everybody played real hard, even the subs I put into certain spots that weren’t used to playing. They rose to the occasion. I’m always proud of the boys. They have such great heart, great spirit, and they just keep fighting. They don’t quit,” Coach Faircloth said proudly.

Scoring for the Leopards was Llosman Zabala had 1 goal, 1 assist; Sadi Zabala with 1 goal; Steven Martinez with 1 goal, 1 assist; and Manny Viruet with 2 goals, 1 assist.

Lakewood’s record is now 2-3 in the conference and 2-4-1 overall.

The Leopards next game will be at Hobbton on Wednesday.
