What started out as a surveillance operation by out-of-county law enforcement on a Salemburg-area residence Tuesday ended with the discovery of a meth lab and the arrest of a Honeycutt Road woman on felony drug charges.

Tara Nicole Bunn, 30, of 4955 Honeycutt Road, Salemburg, was taken into custody by Sampson County sheriff’s officers and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance and misdemeanor child abuse.

She was jailed under a $100,000 bond and is expected to make her first appearance in Sampson District Court Friday. After the Oct. 11 court appearance, authorities are expected to turn Bunn over to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Department where she will be served with additional drug-related warrants stemming from incidents that occurred in that county.

Tuesday’s meth lab discovery came on the heels of a Johnston investigation that brought officers from that county to Sampson.

According to information received from county sheriff’s officers, Johnston investigators notified them that they would be in Sampson County Tuesday to locate a person wanted in Johnston.

While out-of-county investigators were conducting surveillance, reports note, they observed a vehicle leaving the residence they were watching with someone they called “a person of interest” inside the vehicle. Sampson officers were called in to assist and a depty stopped the vehicle on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Clinton.

During the traffic stop, a Clinton Police K-9 officer alerted on the vehicle, leading to a search which uncovered meth waste material.

Sampson and Johnston officers returned to the Honeycutt Road residence they saw Bunn leave, received a consent to search from the homeowner and discovered a meth lab on the property.

An investigation, officers said, led them to suspect Bunn as being responsible for the lab, and she was immediately taken into custody.

No further details on the probe have been released.
