The Dark Horses raced past the Spartans for a junior varsity football shutout, 55-0.
Fifteen seconds into the game, Albert Deaver scored a touchdown followed by a 2-point conversion by Raheem Skinner. This play made the score 8-0 in the first quarter.
At 10:19, a host of Dark Horses blocked a punt and scored, raising their score to 16, leaving Union at zero. Attempting to keep up, the Spartans tried everything they could to get past the Horses.
Not being able to push past the Dark Horses, Union handed over the ball to Clinton’s offense once again. At 6:49 into the second quarter, Clinton’s running back Raheem Skinner scored a touchdown. This touchdown was followed by a 2 point conversion, making Clinton’s score 24-0.
Back on offense, the Union Spartans failed to get past the Dark Horse defense.
59.3 seconds left of the second quarter, Clinton’s #20 Albert Deaver scored yet another touchdown with a two point conversion making the score 32-0 at halftime.
With three minutes left in the third quarter Raheem Skinner scored his third touchdown of the night. With a score of 47-0, Union had one quarter left to catch up, but the Dark Horse defense proved to be too much.
Albert Deaver scored the last touchdown of the game, making the final score 55-0.
Union head coach Josh Rackley said his Spartans needed to work on the basics.
“We have to go back to fundamentals and we need to refocus. We have a free week next week so we’ll be going over that,” stated Coach Rackley.
Clinton head coach Michael Bell was pleased with the way the JV Dark Horses played.
“We started slow, but bounced back and played better in the second half. I’m blessed to coach them. They are a great group of kids who fight and want to be better each week. This is another big win for the team and they deserve all the credit,” Coach Bell asserted.
Clinton will play at West Bladen next Thursday at 6:30. Pender has dropped it’s junior varsity team, so Union has a free week next Thursday.
