The Junior Football Tournament Championship game took place at Royal Lane Park Thursday night with the Steelers and the Lions going head-to-head for the ultimate prize.
The Lions came out victors in a closely contested 7-6 final game, giving parents and fans a sit-on-the-edge-of-your seat ending to the season.
With 3 10-minute quarters under their belt, the Lions were the first to score a touchdown. Granted a good kick, the Lions took a 7-0 lead.
Taking the ball back, the Steelers scored their TD with 4 minutes left in the game. As the seconds rolled by, the Lions remained in the lead by 1 lucky point until the whistle blew.
Taking home medals and a plaque recognizing them as recreation champs, the Lions proudly walked off the field.
“It was a good, close game. Defense paid off. It was a good group of hard working kids. We had a perfect record, 8-0 for our regular record,” stated head coach of the Lions Ollen Raynor.
