Union’s JV Boys took on Wallace Rose-Hill at Union High School Friday night. Although on their home court, the young Spartans just couldn’t hang with the Bulldogs’ pressure.
The first quarter showed signs of a tight game, with a slight Wallace lead of 18-12 at the sound of the first buzzer. However, the Dogs really established their dominance in the second, scoring 21 points while Union only managed 13 points.
After halftime, Wallace continued to push past the Spartans, bringing the total to 57-32. Union rallied hard in the fourth, racking up 16 points, but the Bulldogs took home the victory, 66-48.
JV Head Coach for the Spartans, Bryant Register, said, “I’d like to congratulate Coach Barker and his boys on the win tonight. They have a very athletic team. We were overmatched tonight, but I’m pleased with the amount of heart our boys played with. We got down early, but the guys really dug deep and battled back, I can’t say enough how proud I am of them for their effort. That‘s the kind of effort we need to carryover into the rest of our conference games.”
Leading scorers for Union’s JV were Devin Henry with 13 points, CJ Thornton with 11 points, Carter Spearman with 6 points, Shyquan Brunson with 6 points, Nadier Goodwin with 6 points.
The young Spartans will host Clinton Tuesday, January 7th, to continue their conference play.
