Union hosted Clinton in a conference game Tuesday night. The Spartans struggled competing with the Horses, and it showed on the scoreboard. The final score of the night was 60-34, a Clinton victory.

Union was slow to start in the first, scoring only 4 points. Clinton on the other hand, had no problem warming up to the basket, which they showed by tacking on 18 points. Not much was different in the second, Clinton adding on another 18 points while Union managed only 7. The halftime score was 36-11 in the Horses’ favor. After the third quarter, the scoreboard showed a Clinton lead, 49-19. Not giving up, the Spartans put forth their best effort in the fourth, scoring 15 points. However, it was too little too late, and the Dark Horses walked off the court with a solid win, 60-34.

Clinton head coach, Coach Joyner, said, “I’m really pleased with this win, we really needed to come back and play well after our loss Friday night. Tonight was about execution, and I thought we did a good job of that overall. We had 24 assists, which means we’re getting better at sharing the basketball. We’re going to be working hard to prepare for the conference game Friday night.”

Leading scores for the Dark Horses were J. Banks with 14 points, T. Spruill with 8 points, M. Boykin with 7 points.

Coach Pope, Union’s head coach, said, “I thought our effort was good tonight. Defensively, we were pretty good. We tended to have to same problem we’ve had all year, which was struggling to score the ball. We took better care of the ball tonight, and had fewer turnovers. We’re going to continue to work to try to find a way to score baskets. With exams coming up, we’ll be short on practice time, but we’ll do what we can. Friday night we’ll head to Pender for another tough match.”

Leading the scoring for the Spartans was Brandon Lovette with 12 points. Assisting scorers were Maurice Robinson with 6 points, Cameron Carter with 5 points.

Union will travel to Pender Friday night for a conference game. Clinton will continue their conference play Friday night against West Bladen at CHS.
