The NC Guitar Quartet will perform at the Mount Olive Assembly Hall, 207 Wooten St., on Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m .The event is free.
One of first ensembles of its kind when first touring in 1991, the North Carolina Guitar Quartet has recently reformed with new members Justin Hoke and Chris Wear along with founders Ed Stephenson and Robert Nathanson. This innovative combination will play some of the great standards of the guitar quartet repertoire. The concert will feature the diabolical Voices from the Garden by the American composer David Kechley. Included on the program other pieces celebrating living composers are works by Leo Brouwer, Andrew York and Gerardo Tamez. Come and experience a drive on the pacific coast, a rain storm in Central America, flamenco dances, and yes, even rock and roll!
The concert is part of the University of Mount Olive Recital Series, which brings students and local residents the opportunity to see professional musicians for free. There are four performances in total, with two each semester.
