Hobbton hosted Union on the baseball diamond Wednesday night, in a game that came down to the last batter. Union won the game, 5-4, in dramatic fashion. Union was leading 5-4 with 2 outs in the 7th and final inning, while the Wildcats had runners at second and third. The Hobbton batter hit a dart toward Union’s third baseman Ryan Hall, who fielded the ball, and made a diffcult throw to first. Back-up first baseman George Fernandez then dug the ball out of the dirt on a throw that was a nasty one-hopper to field. The throw beat out the Wildcat batter by a step, and Union was able to get their third win of the year.

“Defensively, I thought we played well,” said Union’s head coach Josh Rackley. “We had one or two defensive plays that we missed that really hurt us, but other than that I was please. We have to crank our bats up, we seem to be stranding a lot of runners on the base-path when we should be driving them in,” finished Rackley.

No stats were available for the game.

Union is now 3-1 on the year and travels to East Bladen Friday. Hobbton’s next game is at Rosewood this Friday.
