Midway baseball cruises past Pender

Midway had the bats rolling at again Friday evening, this time at Pender. Midway won the game in 5 innings, 18-0. It was a clinic by the Raiders on the mound and at the plate.

Midway’s starting pitcher, Taylor Calcutt pitched 3 innings, striking out 6, allowing no walks or hits. Tyler Pope pitched one inning, giving up 1 hit, and Matthew Barefoot struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Calcutt went 3-5, Barefoot went 2-4 with 4 RBIs, Kyle Hawley had a single and an RBI, Cody Baker and Luke Clark each had a hit and 2 RBIs, Austin Hardison went 2-3, driving in 2, and Troy Spell was 1-1 with an RBI.

“It was a good outing. We’re finally batting pretty well these past couple of games. Our pitching staff did a good job again tonight as well,” said Midway’s head coach Jason Fussell.

Midway improves to 4-1 and 3-0 in conference play with the win, and will play at Rosewood Monday evening.
