Clinton Men’s tennis team played hard, but fell to East Duplin, 5-1, in the first round of the 2A state dual team playoffs Tuesday afternoon at Clinton High School. Connor Bass was the only Dark Horse player to win his singles match, defeating Drake Lanier 6-1, 6-2.

The doubles matches were not contested as the outcome was already decided. The Dark Horses end their team season with a record of 7-4. Five players will compete at the 2A Mideast Regional in Reidsville this Friday. Bass/Aaron Viser and Jared Hall/Tyler Kersey will compete in doubles with Daniel Ko representing the Dark Horses in singles. If any player finishes in the top four in the regional, they will compete in the state tournament Friday, May 9 at the Cary Tennis Center.

“I was pleased with our effort, but we may have been a little rusty due to our practice time being limited for the past two weeks by bad weather and holiday break,” said Clinton head coach Robert Jones.
