When contacted, Sampson County Sheriff’s Lt. Marcus Smith declined to provide details on the case, only saying officers were still investigating. No names were released.
“We don’t want to compromise the case,” Smith stressed.
He declined to comment on whether a shooter was in custody at this time.
“We are still investigating at this time,” he said.
In the second shooting, which occurred just after 8 p.m. on Goldsboro Highway, one man was injured and taken to the emergency room for treatment.
Smith did say that the victim was expected to recover.
Again, the sheriff’s lieutenant declined to comment on whether the alleged shooter was in custody.
