One Garland man is in custody and another still on the loose after a home invasion in the southern Sampson County town early this morning.

Josh Montoya, 19, of 633 West 2nd Ave., is currently being processed by Sampson County Sheriff’s investigators, and charges are pending.

Officers are still searching for a second man, identified as Dustin Carr, an 18-year-old black male who’s addressed is listed as 626 West 2nd Ave. Sheriff officials said Carr should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call authorities at 910-592-4141.

An all-day probe into the early morning home invasion led officers to Montoya, said Sheriff’s Lt. Marcus Smith, contacted just a few moments ago.

“They have been at the Garland residence all day processing evidence and looking into this,” the lieutenant said.

The home invasion occurred around 5:30 a.m. when two masked men forced their way into a North Powell Street residence in Garland. Smith said after the two men made entry into the home and incident ensued and shots were fired.

One of two people in the home, Smith said, was shot receiving what he called minor, non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects fled and, when officers responded, a search began.

Montoya was taken into custody late in the afternoon.
