The Lady Dark Horse Volleyball team hosted Eastern Wayne on Monday afternoon in a non-conference match and pulled off the upset. Eastern Wayne, fresh off a deep playoff run last season, was expected to make quick work of the Lady Dark Horses, but failed to hold up their end of the bargain, as Clinton spiked their way to a 3 games to 1 victory.
The Warriors won the first game 22-25 in a come from behind effort. The Dark Horses did not flinch though, and took the next three games by scores of 25-17, 27-25 and 25-23. The Lady Horses were led by Francesca Jauregui with 6 digs, 14 spikes, 2 tips, 9 kills and 1 block. Also coming up big for Clinton was Elizabeth Tsao with 4 digs, 10 spikes, 6 tips, 3 kills, 2 blocks and an ace, Corey Spell added 6 digs, 3 spikes and 2 aces., and Jamie Jones had 7 tips and 1 kill with one of her tips finishing off the Warriors in one of the games.
Clinton’s head coach, Jennifer Edgerton said after the game, “I am so proud of our ladies today. They came up big against a quality opponent and this is just the beginning of many more great efforts to come.”
The win brings the Lady Dark Horses’ record to 1-2 on the season. They are set to host Smithfield-Selma in a match on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Dark Horse JV squad remained undefeated at 3-0 with their 3-0 shutout of the JV Warriors.
