A Salemburg man, already in jail, has been served with New Jersey warrants charging him with theft by extortion.
Byron Jese Hernandez, 27, of 11 Patterson Lane, Salemburg, received the latest charge late last week while still sitting an occupant of the Sampson County Detention Center.
Although officials at the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office in New Jersey confirmed Tuesday morning that a warrant for Hernandez had been issued by Superior Court Judge Mark J. Fleming on Sept. 24, no additional information was available concerning the extortion case. A call to the office of Fleming’s clerk in New Jersey was not returned before press time Tuesday.
Sampson County sheriff’s officials served the New Jersey warrant on Hernandez Thursday, Sept. 27, just after 5 p.m. He was given no bond for the charge.
According to sheriff’s officials, Hernandez was still in jail following a July arrest where he was placed under a $500,000 secured bond after being linked to a June 2010 kidnapping, robbery and assault in Sampson County.l
Reports show that on June 18, 2010, three individuals broke into a Hayes Mill Road residence in the northern part of the county, brandishing weapons, tying up the three residents inside and robbing them. Hernandez was one of those linked to the crime.
No one was injured in the incident.
The two other suspects have yet to be found.
