Union traveled to Wallace Friday evening to play in the Bulldogs’ Homecoming game. The ‘Dogs came out on top, 27-13.
The Spartans used a late touchdown pass in the first half from Alfredo Garcia to Daniel Glover to tie the game heading into halftime at 13 a piece.
The Bulldogs came out with tons of intensity in the second half. A long touchdown run early in the third quarter allowed Wallace to regain a 6-point lead.
Union would never score again. The offensive line seemed to have trouble blocking the big defensive front from Wallace. Garcia did not have much time to make decisions when throwing the football in the second half. When Union tried to run the ball, the Bulldogs would get into the backfield quickly as well.
A fumble in the end zone by Union seemed to seal their loss. Wallace recovered the fumble in the end zone and after the 2-point conversion, the Spartan deficit was 14.
However, Union continued to fight hard and showed some positive signs in their loss on Friday. Garcia continued to play solid football with 8 carries for 31 yards and a rushing touchdown. He was 7-23 through the air with one touchdown pass and one interception.
Daniel Glover had a touchdown reception to go along with 9 carries and 30 yards. Glover also had 8.5 tackles and a fumble recovery. Justin Smith had 10.5 tackles and a sack. Anfrenee Cromartie had 10 tackles, 2 sacks, and a fumble recovery as well.
“Two turnovers killed us. The offensive line struggled a little bit but I feel like everybody played hard, and they looked a lot better on our final drive” said Coach Doug Burley.
Union visits the Trask Titans next week for a crucial conference battle.
