It was a roller coaster ride in Tiger country Tuesday night as the Lady Leopards and the James Kenan girls tangled all the way into overtime, with the Leopards getting the upper hand in the final minutes.

Lakewood started out strong and had a 6-point lead at the end of the first quarter; they were up 7 at the half.

The Tigers got a second wind at the break and by the end of the third quarter, they had moved ahead of the Leopards by 1 point, 33-32.

James Kenan and Lakewood went toe-to-toe in the fourth quarter to end it tied up at 42.

It wasn’t until that extra fifth period that the Lady Leopards forced their way into the lead, scoring 8 points to James Kenan’s 3 for a final score of 45-50.

A relieved Lakewood head coach Lofton Kerr said both teams played tough, but his girls took command of the game in overtime.

“We played good and started the game with good intensity, leading for most of the game. Both teams played hard, but we got our focus back in overtime and took control of the game,” he explained.

Top Lakewood scorers were Tiesha Rich with 14 points; Brittney Boykin, 12; Bianca Moore, 8; Jakyra Braxton, 6; Tasha and Kyra Rich, each scored 4 points; and Jache’ Servance, scored 2.

This brings Lakewood’s winning streak to 12-0. They host Hobbton on Friday.
