Plata continues to give to others
Fernando Plata, a third-grader at Hobbton Elementary, celebrated his ninth birthday earlier this year, on Oct. 22. For several years now, he has had a birthday project, rather than a traditional party. He chooses a charity and requests his party guests to bring items that can be donated to the charity, instead of gifts for himself. This year he chose the Ronald McDonald House of Eastern North Carolina, located in Greenville. He knows that he has been blessed with good health and that some children and families face sickness and problems each day, his family said, noting that Fernando greatly appreciates all the love and support he received for making his birthday project a great success.
