Lakewood’s Lady Leopards extended their winning streak with an impressive 72-15 road victory over Pender Friday night.

Coach Loftin Kerr said his team had a strong defensive showing, but that it was the offense effort that helped them gain the win.

“Pender couldn’t handle our pressure defense, that’s for sure, but it was our offense that lit it up. It ran very smoothly. We were able to let everyone play tonight, and our bench scored real good tonight,” Kerr said

Lakewood jumped out to a huge 21-5 lead in the first quarter and just racking up the points while, at the same time, holding Pender to less than 10 points in two quarters.

By the half, the Lady Leops were ahead 34-8.

“By the third quarter, we were playing in our 2-3 zone,” Kerr said.

In that period, Lakewood added another 19 points. Pender only managed to score 5. In the final frame, the Leopard girls added another 19 points and held Pender to only 2.

“It was a great game. I was very happy with the way the girls played,” Kerr said.

Lady Lep Brittany Boykin led scoring for Lakewood with 16 points, followed closely behind by Tiesha Rich, with 15 points.

Rich had a double-double on the night, pulling down 10 rebounds along with her 15 points.

Also scoring for Lakewood was Bianca Moore, 12; Kiera Rich, 10; Shaquandra Lilly, 4 points, 5 rebounds; Rasheeda Parker, 7; Tasha Rich, 4; Jakyra Blackmon, 2; and Swazay Marable, 2.

Kerr said Lilly had a good game. “She played real good for us,” the coach stressed.

The Lakewood varsity girls move to 14-0 overall and 6-0 in conference play.

They will participate Monday in the Martin Luther King Jam at Union and return to conference play Tuesday when they host county rival Union.
