As the furor over Sampson Community Theatre’s hit production of “Hairspray’ begins to wane, auditions for yet another production are on the horizon.

Tom Wilbur will be directing the next SCT play, the Rick Harlowe comedy “Lost on the 4th of July,” which will run April 5-6, 12-13 at 8 p.m., with 3 p.m. matinees scheduled for April 7 and 14.

But before production can begin, Wilbur must have a cast, so he’s holding auditions this weekend — Saturday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m and again Sunday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. at the community theater on Fayetteville Street in Clinton. Press Release

The story is about middle-aged Alex Ravena who is getting married for the second time. On the night of his bachelor party, Thomas Jefferson appears in his apartment. It seems Ben Franklin and Jefferson were working on a teleportation machine and Jefferson was the first test subject landing him in 1983 Boston just prior to the 4th of July and the wedding.

Wilbur is looking to cast the following roles:

Alex Ravenna - is a successful businessman in the city of Boston who owns his own Public Relations firm. Ever the PR man and practical joker, he has an engaging and endearing personality, is very easy-going—is quick to shake your hand—but with sardonic outlook at times.

Thomas Jefferson - the American statesman and father of the Declaration of Independence is middle-aged and an impressive looking man—especially in his late 19th century costume. He is fairminded and caring about his politics and the plight of the common man. When he speaks his diction is clear and precise.

Bob McGuffin - a local businessman with a string of fast-food restaurants who is planning to enter local politics at the urging of his wife—who is the classic social climber. An uneducated man who quite often speaks without thinking, has hired Alex to help him with his campaign for city office.

Jenny Ravenna - Alex’s daughter is in her late 20s and is a single, bright, up-and-coming young attorney working out of Washington, DC. She is attractive, very outgoing and concerned about her father’s well-being.

Jimmy - a successful, young black man, is an undercover cop who moonlights as a photographer. A close friend of Jenny from their school days. He is a go-getter and sharp dresser that is very proud of his black heritage. Alex has hired him to photograph his upcoming wedding to Dr. Susan Baker.

Dr. Susan Baker - an attractive, successful, middle-aged Surgeon working at Boston General Hospital. A down-to-earth lady who is madly in love with Alex, she comes from a society background—but doesn’t show it.

Ben Franklin - in his late 50s to mid 60s, inventor, statesman, newspaper publisher and ladies man. Ben is constantly spouting platitudes (of his own creation).

Mr/Mrs Vander Cass - Susan’s society-conscious mother/father in her/his late 60’s, 70s. Appears very posh, doesn’t care much for Alex, dresses impeccably. When in a room with Alex speaks as if he were not there. Can be male or female, but preferably female.

Legs O’Kimble - a lady of the night, very attractive, sexy and common in her speech. Ever on the lookout for a customer.
