Mrs. Emma S. Byrd

TURKEY — Mrs. Emma Smith Byrd, 95, of 3809 Cabin Museum Road, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Mary Gran Nursing Center.

The funeral will be held Monday night at 7 p.m. at Royal-Hall Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Michael Shook officiating.

Born in 1917 in Johnston County, Mrs. Byrd was the daughter of the late David Smith and Smithie Smith. She was a member of Bethlehem Free Will Baptist Church, a homemaker and the widow of Paul Lee Byrd.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet B. King and husband, Harris of Clinton; and a son, Richard Byrd and wife, Linda, of Rockingham; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Winnifred Byrd and Keith Byrd.

The family will receive friends following the funeral Monday at the funeral home and other times at her daughter’s home at 605 Carolina Ave., Clinton.
