Robert T. Herring

CLINTON — Mr. Robert Thedie Herring, 84, of 11561 N. US Hwy. 421, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 11341 N. US 421 Hwy., Clinton, with the Rev. W.H. Calcutt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Herring, born in Sampson County, was the son of the late Thedie Hanson Herring and Annie McLamb Herring. He was a farmer, a graduate of Herring High School, and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. A brother, David Mac Herring, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Naylor Herring of the home; a daughter, Mac Herring Howington and husband Rickey of Jefferson, Ga.; three sons, Robert Hanson Herring and wife Cindy Autry Herring of Clinton, David Bryant Herring and wife Debby Griffin Herring of Clinton, and Jeffrey Alan Herring and wife Carolyn Howard Herring of Newton Grove; eight grandchildren, Joseph Herring, Angie Riordan, Misty Cox, Rick Howington, Adam Herring, John-Mark Herring, Tyler Herring and Jeremy Strickland; eleven great-grandchildren, Helen-Beth Riordan, John Allen Riordan III, Amelia Renee Riordan, Anna Marion Riordan, Mattie Jane Cox, Annabelle Cox, Bryant Cox, Madison Howington, Josie Brooke Herring, Ayden Strickland, and Ansley Strickland; and a niece, Nicky Herring Cox and husband Jerry of Four Oaks.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the hour prior to the service, Friday, March 15, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Old Fellowship Hall and other times at the home.
