Hobbton Middle girls soccer team picked up their first win of the season beating visiting Roseboro-Salemburg Middle 7-0.

The Wild cats would get their first goal at the 24 minute mark on a 10 yard shot from Lexi Mincy. Mincy would score again three minutes later when a through-ball from Ashley Hinterleiter would find her in the middle of the penalty box to make the score 2-0. The score would remain the same going into halftime.

“We had a hard time getting quality shots because their defense was so packed in and their goalkeeper was always in the right spot at the right time. We had to work hard for every shot we got,” said Hobbton Coach Damon Burnett.

The Wildcats would start out strong three minutes into the second half when Norma Vallejo would score her first goal of the season unassisted. Two minutes later, a pass from Jasmine Santos to Lexi Mincy who would put the ball into the left side of the goal to make it 4-0. Mincy would score again off of a pass from Gabriela Villagomez-Subio to make the score 5-0. Kaysie Ramos, a right midfielder would score on a blast from the right side five minutes later. Mincy would get her fifth and team’s seventh goal unassisted with ten minutes remaining.

“We had an extraordinary week of practice last week and the girls showed it in the second half. I have to give a lot of credit to our defense (Celine Marrison, Destiny Horne, Lyric Collins, Angelica Rodriguez, Angelica Ramirez, Griselda Montes) for keeping the heat off of our keeper, Madison Warren. Martha Alvarez was huge in the midfield. She created a lot of counter-attacks,” stressed Coach Burnett.

Hobbton next game is home verses Union Middle on Thursday.
