Once again, South River Electric Membership Corporation’s foundation, the Community Assistance Corporation, is making someone’s day. The group awarded $32,588.06 in grants through the Operation Round Up program.
The foundation awarded $27,344.69 to local educational institutions. Hargrove Elementary received a grant for $7,993.54; Mac Williams Middle was awarded a grant of $9,351.15; lastly, Armstrong Elementary, was the recipient of a $10,000 grant.
The Community Assistance Corporation also presented a $500 grant to the Just-A-Mere Garden Club and $4,743.37 to Vann Crossroads Fire Department.
Since the Operation Round Up program began in 2009, over $871,204 has been donated back to local communities.
South River EMC members participate in Operation Round Up by agreeing to have their bill rounded up to the next dollar each month. If their bill is $108.92, the 8¢ remaining will be put into an account managed by the Community Assistance Corporation.
Quarterly, funds are distributed to local service agencies, educational pursuits or to aid families who are experiencing unusually grave times. The next funding opportunity will be in June, applications are due to the Cooperative by May 24.
South River EMC is a locally-owned and operated electric cooperative, which provides electric service to 42,000 homes, farms and businesses in parts of Harnett, Cumberland, Sampson, Johnston and Bladen counties.
