The 32nd annual North Carolina Watermelon Festival in Historic Murfreesboro is scheduled Aug. 2 – 5. This year’s theme is a “Salute to Summertime Fun.” Watermelon hits its prime in August, sweetening backyard barbecues, lazy-day picnics on the grass, and beach parties. It boasts an unbeatable combination for long, hot days. Watermelons are colorful, sweet, crunchy, refreshing, and easy to transport!

Watermelon patrons will once again experience a variety of entertainment, arts and crafts, great food, a 5K Race/walk, fireworks, and a carnival atmosphere with Cole Amusement Rides and games. This year’s craft area will feature a large market tent which will spotlight regional wares —- food, pottery, peanuts, and watermelon items (sponsored by Ace Hardware and Southern Bank of Murfreesboro).

What makes the Watermelon Festival special is the true Southern hospitality shown by the festival volunteers along with the citizens of Murfreesboro. Come join the fun!

Featured bands for the 2017 festival are:

August 2 – Band of Oz

August 3 – Backyard Groove

August 4 – Steve Owens and the Summertime Band

August 5 – Pizazz
