UMO names homecoming king and queen

MOUNT OLIVE — Sanyi Abdissa of Ethiopia and Alexis McNeil of Bowie, Maryland were named as the 2015 University of Mount Olive Homecoming King and Queen during the 50th annual Pickle Classic Tournament, held the weekend of Nov. 20th.

Sixteen students were nominated by their peers to participate in this year’s Homecoming Court. The winners were selected by the student body.

Abdissa, the son of Yoseph and Tsehay Abdissa, is a senior biology and chemistry major. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, Henderson Science Club, Phi Beta Lambda, Tri-Beta, SI Leader, peer tutor, group collaborative learning leader, Resident Assistant, Ambassador of the Chemistry Club, and president of Open Hands. Abdissa enjoys intramural volleyball, soccer, traveling, and playing keyboard and guitar.

McNeil, daughter of Michael and Nena McNeil, is a junior psychology major. She is a member of the women’s track and field team, Ballroom Dancing Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Peer Mentor, One Love Peer Facilitator, University Ambassador, University Marshall, Campus Activities Board (CAB) and Psychology Club. McNeil enjoys camping, hiking, photography, running, biking, and DIY projects.

The Homecoming King and Queen will represent UMO at the NC Pickle Festival and the Mount Olive Christmas Parade, among other functions.
