The Friends of the Cumberland County Public Library & Information Center present North Carolina writer Katey Schultz on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at Headquarters Library, 300 Maiden Lane.

Schultz is presenting “Where Research Meets Imagination,” in which she describes her writing process for her collection of short stories Flashes of War, which won the 2013 fiction of the year prize from the Military Writers Society of America. Los Angeles Review of Books described the book as “a deceptively minimalist style that out-Carvers Carver and exposes the traumas of war without any breast-beating outrage.”

Schultz is recipient of the Linda Flowers Literary Award from the North Carolina Humanities Council and has two flash fiction pieces nominated for the 2016 Pushcart award. She lives in a 1970 Airstream trailer bordering the Pisgah National Forest. The author will have books for sale after the presentation.
