Pamlico County Sheriff’s officials are reporting the drowning death of a six-year old boy from Sampson County.

The name of the young boy has not been released by officials, but rumors of the name were circulating around the boy’s home county by Saturday morning.

The boy, who is reportedly a student at Mintz Christian Academy, drowned in a swimming pool Friday in the eastern part of North Carolina, near the Oriental Marina in Pamlico County.

Reports indicated the young boy had been in the swimming pool for about half an hour in about three feet of water when the accident occurred. There was no life guard on duty.

When rescue personnel responded, the child’s family had pulled the boy from the pool to perform CPR, but the boy was pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital.

No charges will be filed, according to the report. The identity of the victim has not been released.
