Cast continues final rehearsals for ‘Cats’

The upcoming production of ‘Cats’ is currently in the last weekend of rehearsals. Opening night is June 16.

The rehearsal days for the director and cast of the musical “Cats” are dwindling down to a precious few in anticipation of opening night on Thursday, June 16, at 8 p.m.

The enthusiasm and dedication are as strong today as it was when the first rehearsals were held. One cast member is Ben Casey who is a 16 year-old 11th grader at Clinton High who has been in three productions at the school but this is his first appearance on our stage. He doesn’t play sports but took the part of Bustopher Jones in “Cats” because it did not feel like work to him, but more like an experience that he is glad to be a part of.

Another cast member is Lucas Jackson who has been in multiple SCT shows and who excels in being on stage for as long as he can. He is portraying Mr. Mistofolees and as usual he does everything he can to get a few laughs. In July, “Cats” will be returning to Broadway for another stint and Linda Carr was so fortunate to get the rights for it to be performed right here in God’s country when she did because many parts of our country were excluded from being exposed to this show that ran for years on Broadway, because of its songs and dancing. It’s possible that this show will never be able to be seen for a box office price which we are offering so grab it while you can.

We are honored to have the sponsorship of “Cats” by Sampson Salvage Co. Inc. and the music by Star Communications. We thank them for helping to keep the live arts alive in our county.

Congratulations to Angela Martin for receiving her masters of theater arts education from UNC-Greensboro this spring. She has spent many hours attending classes during the summer to attain this goal. She will be directing the all-county (high school students) musical, “Legally Blonde,” at Hobbton High School this Saturday, June 11, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 12, at 3 p.m. Many members of the cast are regulars on our stage. Don’t forget that Angela will be holding auditions for “The Lion King, Jr.” at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 18 and Saturday, June 25. She will once again have her very popular Summer Theater camp August 8-11. See contact info below.

It is recommended that you get your tickets for “Cats” early because we expect some sellouts. Tickets are available at Inkspot, Matthews Gifts and at the box office during rehearsals.
