Each time Becky Spell Vann checks the mailbox at Tim’s Gift, she doesn’t know what blessings will be found inside. Lately, those blessings have been coming in small envelopes that are filled with an abundance of love.
Thanks to Wanda Ellis, these envelopes Vann receives are part of the Jesus Dollar Drive that was started in March, with the hopes of raising enough money to cover the cost of a storage facility at the ministry and bless local people along the way.
In March, Vann said, Ellis brought the first Jesus dollar to Tim’s Gift and explained that her church was able to build a fellowship building that was completely funded through Jesus dollars.
What is a Jesus dollar? Vann explains that a Jesus dollar is a one dollar bill that has the letter J as the first letter in the bill’s serial number. The serial number can be found to the left of the president’s picture.
“These bills are hard to find,” Vann said. “They just don’t make as many of these as they do other bills.”
Once Tim’s Gift initiated the dollar drive, the idea caught and spread like a wild fire. Each month, the ministry prays to collect more than the month before. To date, more than 400 Jesus dollars have been collected through the drive.
“Who would think that something so small, a one dollar bill, could bring so much awareness to God?” Vann said. “These dollars are bringing people in here and giving us a chance to witness to them.”
Tim’s Gift, who assists those in need with medical supplies, has been fortunate enough to gather so many supplies, the storage room in the back of the office is overflowing. Desperately in need of an additional storage building, Vann said she thought the dollar drive would be the perfect way to raise the money to pay for the additional storage and give her and the rest of the ministry crew a chance to witness.
“We want to see how many Jesus dollars we can collect by Christmas,” Vann said. “At the end of each month, we will post the number of Jesus dollars that have been given to Tim’s Gift and put the names of those who donated into a drawing for a special gift.”
In addition to the drawing, the Jesus dollars have allowed the ministry to provide a meal for people in the community who are either in need or have done something positive for the community.
According to Vann, the Jesus Dollar Drive has been about more than just finding a unique dollar bill. The drive has been another way for Vann and her staff to minister. Even the Sonshine Kids from The Learning Station have gotten involved in the drive and enjoy going with Vann to deliver the meals and share the love of God with others.
“The beauty of this is what God can do with something as simple as a dollar,” Vann said. “Through the Jesus Dollar Drive, God is speaking to us and ministering through us.”
For anyone who has a dollar bill with a J on it, Vann asks for you to drop it off at Tim’s Gift or mail it to: Tim’s Gift, 108 Northeast Blvd., Clinton, N.C. 28328. If you are unable to drop off the dollar or put it in the mail, contact Vann at the office and she will be glad to make arrangements to pick the money up.
“Whether you have one dollar of 100 dollars, everything can help,” Vann said.
