It’s almost time to stomp at one of the largest wineries in the South.

Duplin Winery is celebrating 40 years of its annual Grape Stomp Celebration from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the vineyards, 918 W. Charity Road, Rose Hill. The annual tradition includes dancing, wine tasting and the grape stomping contest. Attendees will have a chance to stomp grapes with their bare feet and win prizes for being the best at it.

“We feel like kids who are counting down until Christmas Day,” stated Jonathan Fussell, co-owner of Duplin Winery in a news release. “The Grape Stomp is extra special to us this year, and we invite everyone to celebrate with us.”

Fussell added that his favorite part of the day is watching people stomp grapes for the first time.

“I love that look on their face when they feel the grapes moving through their toes,” he said.

Stomping stations will run from 2 to 6 p.m. and finalist will compete at the “Stomp-Off” at 7 p.m.

In addition to grape stomping, Chocolate Chip & Company Band and The Holiday Band are performing live. Guest will be allowed to tour the vineyards and facilities where the wine-making takes place. The Bistro Restaurant at festival goers can enjoy a meal on a first come, first served basis. Outside of the restaurant, vendors will sell dinners too.

On the day of the celebration, wine tastings will be available from 1 to 8 p.m. Reservations are required. Nicole Detsch, social media and marketing assistant for Duplin Winery, recommends signing up for reservations after a ticket is purchased. Tastings are scheduled at the beginning of each hour. The first is set for 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. for the final. For $5, the deluxe upgrade includes cheese dip, gourmet crackers and an extra glass of wine.

“They tend to fill up very quickly, and we want everyone to be able to enjoy tasting multiple Duplin wines, in order to find their favorite,” Detsch said.

Advance tickets for the 40th Annual Grape Stomp Celebration are $15 and $25 at the gate. Gates open at 12:30 p.m.
