In several days, students throughout Sampson County will begin the next level of their education and open house events throughout the district will help with the process.

“We’re looking forward to a successful opening of school,” said Susan Warren, a student services and public relations administrator for Sampson County Schools. “We encourage all parents and students to come out and participate in various open houses going on throughout the school system.”

The first day of school for Sampson County students is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 29.

“This is a great time for students to get their schedule and get preparation for the 2016-2017 school year,” Warren said.

According to previous reports, Sampson County Schools is expecting more than 8,300 students for the upcoming school year.

“We have high expectations for our students and teachers and they’re going to exceed these expectations,” Warren said about the new school year.

Warren said the event allows students to visit and talk with teachers and other administrators.

“It helps kids, especially the ones with new schools to get acclimated and get a feel for where their classes are,” Warren said.”When the first day rolls around, they know where they need to be.

“We’ve got new teachers in the school system, so some of these kids don’t know these new teachers,” Warren said. “We want to encourage to get as many people out as we can.”

The event will also allow parents to pick up a supply list to help aid in the learning process. Warren said the information is also available on many school websites.
