DUNN — A Sampson County resident has been arrested on felony and misdemeanor drug charges following a complaint from a neighboring resident.

Sherrill Lynn Benson, 45, of 48 Alex Lane, Dunn, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Sampson County Sheriff’s Lt. Marcus Smith, deputies responded to a complaint and subsequently searched the subject’s vehicle, a four door Ford Focus.

“Deputies responded to a complaint on Alex Land and during their investigation into the complaint, they located one gram of meth inside the suspect’s vehicle,” Smith said. “As a result, he was arrested and charged.”

Benson was placed in the Sampson County Detention under $25,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in District Court on the charges Feb. 24.

According to information on the North Carolina Department of Public Safety’s website, Benson has a criminal history dating back to 1988, including charges in Wake, Johnson and Harnett counties for larceny, breaking and entering and other drug related incidents.
