A Parkton man is currently facing a statutory rape charge, according to a Sampson County Sheriff’s report.

Dorian Collins, 21, of 1789 W. Parkton-Tobemory, Parkton, was arrested and charged with one count of felony statutory rape on Thursday, July 9. Sampson County Sheriff’s Lt. Marcus Smith reported that a parent notified authorities about the incident.

“A mother reported she suspected inappropriate behavior had occurred between her 14-year-old daughter and the male suspect,” Smith said. “An investigation was launched into the incident and probable cause was established in the case to charge the suspect.”

Collins was later sent to the Sampson County Detention Center. Bond was set at $125,000. The court date is scheduled for July 17.

“No further information is available,” Smith said regarding the case.

According to state laws, “A defendant is guilty of a Class B1 felony if the defendant engages in vaginal intercourse or a sexual act with another person who is 13, 14, or 15 years old and the defendant is at least six years older than the person, except when the defendant is lawfully married to the person.”
