Christmas is a couple of seasons away, but Toys for Tots is not wasting time working to put smiles on the faces of local children through local events.

Toys for Tots of Bladen and Sampson Counties and Revival Deliverance Center is presenting “Gospel Concert in the Park,” from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at Roseboro Park, 100 E. Roseboro St. The purpose of the event is to raise funds and collect donations for the children. There is no charge for admission, but Jones said monetary gifts and new toys will be appreciated. Checks or money orders should be made out to: Toys for Tots.

Singing groups from Roseboro, Clinton, Garland, Fayetteville are scheduled to participate. Other acts include mime dancing and spoken word. In addition to music, food and clothing vendors will be selling goods and services in the park too.

Carmen Jones, coordinator for Sampson, Bladen and Duplin counties, said the branch of the nonprofit organization was successful for the past few years when it comes to hosting events.

“The Toys for Tots 2017 campaign is in high gear to make this Christmas holiday season the best one yet,” Jones said. “In order to ensure that we help as many families as we possibly can, we are raising funds and awareness as early as possible.”

She said a lot of civic and business organizations offered support along the way.

“We’re looking for better success,” Jones said. “We want the local businesses to get involved.”

The organization has a lot of volunteers, but the organization is searching for a representative for Clinton and Newton Grove. Jones said representatives are currently in areas such as Garland and Roseboro.

“We need somebody to take charge of delivering toys to the Clinton area,” Jones said.

Children in Duplin County will also be assisted by the organization. Jones stated that volunteers are needed for Autryville, Harrells, Newton Grove, Salemburg and Turkey. In Bladen County, volunteers are required for Clarkton, Dublin, East Arcadia, Elizabethtown, Tar Heel and White Lake.

For the upcoming event, Jones and other supporters are seeking participation from churches in from nearby counties to participate.

“We are asking if all churches in Bladen, Duplin and Sampson could please get on board and help out so we can help others in the communities,” Jones said. “We are so thankful for Revival Deliverance Center Church in Roseboro for helping host this great event.

Following the upcoming event, Pure Platinum MC Rose Hill, NC Chapter is hosting a motorcycle ride, 8 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at Sunset Avenue Elementary School, 505 Sunset Ave., Clinton. Registration is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and it’s scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. The registration fee is $20 for one rider and $10 for the second rider.

In August, Toys for Tots is hosting the inaugural Prince and Princess Pageant at Sunset Avenue School. Details will be released in the future.

“Each of these events will be beneficial to the Toys for Tots campaign as we will be accepting donations and toys,” she said.

The Gospel Concert in the Park is scheduled to take place rain or shine. If it rains, the event will be moved to the Charles E. Perry School, 705 Boone St., Roseboro.
