Clinton man ID’d as U.S. 701 homicide victim

Sampson County Sheriff’s authorities are investigating a homicide on U.S. 701, south of the bypass at Dogwood Acres, where they found a 20-year-old male dead in a vehicle following an emergency call of gunshots fired late Friday night.

According to information from the Sheriff’s Office, just before midnight Friday, the Sampson County E-911 Center received a report of multiple gunshots fired in the area of Dogwood Acres on U.S. 701, south of Clinton. A short time later, another call was received indicating a vehicle had crashed into a utility pole at Dogwood Acres.

First responders discovered the body of Christopher Anjantre Wright, 20, of Clinton, inside the passenger vehicle that had collided into the utility pole. Investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office processed the crime scene throughout the night and interviewed area residents. No information was released on the exact injuries sustained by Wright or cause of death.

The incident is considered a homicide at this point, authorities said, however there is no suspect information or motive available.
