The Sampson Arts Council is sponsoring ‘The Artist’s Palette,’ free cultural arts programming this summer featuring local artists at the Victor R. Small House in Clinton. On Aug. 5, Dr. Rue Lee-Holmes presented ‘Jazz for Kids’ for 37 children. Rue played and taught the children about the xylophone, shared a story called “The Jazz Fly”, and taught the children how to scat. The children also enjoyed playing a jazzy tune on the glockenspiel, a small percussion instrument similar to the xylophone. The next Artist’s Palette performance will be Wednesday, Aug. 12, 10-11 a.m. at the Victor R. Small House in downtown Clinton featuring local guitarist, Jonathan Custer, ‘Musical Storyteller.’ Jonathan will teach children about the guitar and perform children’s songs. This event is free for all ages. For more information, call the Sampson Arts Council at 910-596-2533.
