The Sampson County Branch of the NAACP is sponsoring an event Oct. 3 in hopes of reaching the youth of Sampson County, organizers said.
The local branch will sponsor “March on Sampson County for HOPE for a Better Future for Our Youth,” Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Sampson County Agri-Exposition Center on Warsaw Road. Organizers said they hope to gather a large crowd to include community leaders, youth, parents and supporters of making the future better for today’s youth.
Participants will march from the parking lot of the civic center to the downtown courthouse and back, which is less than 1.5 miles total. While at the courthouse, marchers will gather to hear a brief speaker and to pray for a better future for the youth in Sampson County while holding hands.
Following the march, a tailgate party will be held in the parking lot of the civic center. This year’s event will also include a community meeting with the youth to address how their actions impact their future. Participants will be served hot dogs and hamburgers, as they listen to several community speakers, youth performances and a DJ.
Event organizers are asking that community leaders participate in the march and volunteer services to support this historical event. The primary goal of the the event is to promote a better future for today’s youth.
Branch members are asking the community to announce this event at local church and organizational meetings to help bring the community together to show support and appreciation for the youth of Sampson County. The primary goal for the event is to promote a better future for the youth.
Donations are being accepted to help offset the cost of the event.
